The simplest way to find out is to click on your desktop to go to the Finder, then select "About This Computer" under the Apple menu (top left of your screen).
Among other things, the window that appears will tell you how much Virtual Memory you are running.
Another way to find out, and to turn VM on or off or change the amount, is to open the Memory Control Panel. Go to the Apple Menu, drag down to Control Panels, and Select "Memory".
