If you own a device more than a few months old, there's a good chance of a newer, better driver being available for it. I have taken a peripheral straight out of the box and found a more current driver for it the same day!
Every month or so, take a few minutes to surf around to the home pages of the devices you own. If you bookmark them all and stick them in a "Driver Update" folder on your browser, you can do it pretty quickly, and it's almost always worth the trouble ... particularly if you've recently upgraded your OS and are having any peripheral problems.
