Shutting off the power (as with a powerbar) or unplugging a Mac between startups does it no harm whatsoever. In fact, it is rarely harmful to unplug a Mac, even if it's running -- although it's not a really wise idea. Pentium Machines, on the other hand, will suffer severe brain-scrambling if someone trips over the power cord. Score one for Mac!
